About Scranton Hardscape & Pavers
Scranton Hardscape & Pavers is a Scranton-based hardscape and landscape design-build company focused on residential outdoor spaces. We plan and build paver patios, retaining walls, walkways, steps, landscape environments, and outdoor living areas as one connected system — coordinated around grade, drainage, material, and the way a household actually uses a yard. The work is rooted in Northeastern Pennsylvania conditions: rocky subsoils, seasonal runoff, and freeze-thaw cycles that decide whether an outdoor space lasts or fails.
Outdoor Spaces Designed as Complete Systems
A patio is not an island. It connects to a walkway, meets a wall, sits on a grade, sheds water, and borders a landscape that changes with the seasons. When those pieces are planned together, the result feels intentional and holds up. When they are planned separately, the seams show up later — as a settled edge, a wet patio, or a wall that fights the slope it was meant to hold.
We approach each property as a system. A paver patio is sized to how the household moves through it — dining, gathering, circulation — and tied back to the house through walkways and steps. Where the yard changes elevation, retaining walls and steps create usable transitions instead of awkward drops. Underneath all of it, drainage and grade carry water away from the surfaces and the foundation.
Around the hardscape, landscape design softens the edges, frames the space, and extends its use into the evening with lighting. The point is not to install one feature and leave. It is to build an outdoor environment where the patio, the walls, the planting, and the grade all belong to the same property.
How Projects Are Planned
This is how we think through a build — not a rigid engineering process, but the sequence of decisions that separates a thoughtful hardscape from a rushed one.
Property + Goals
We start with the property itself — the existing grade, drainage, mature landscape, access, and the way the household actually wants to use the outdoor space.
Layout + Material Direction
Patio size, circulation, connection to the house, and material character are decided together so the hardscape reads as part of the architecture rather than an afterthought.
Grade + Drainage Considerations
Elevation changes, surface runoff, and water movement are mapped before any stone is chosen. Drainage shapes the layout, not the other way around.
Site Preparation
Excavation depth, aggregate base, compaction, and edge restraint are set to the load and the freeze-thaw conditions the build will actually face.
Installation
Pavers, wall systems, steps, and stone are installed to the planned layout with attention to pattern, joint material, and finished grade.
Landscape + Finishing Details
Planting, sod, lighting, and the transitions between hardscape and landscape close the project so the whole property reads as one system.
Material Character, Not Just Material Names
Material selection follows the property and the use — traffic load, freeze-thaw exposure, and the architectural character of the home. These are the palettes we work with most often across Scranton and the surrounding area.

High-density interlocking concrete pavers offer consistent geometry, a wide range of colors and patterns, and dependable performance when the base and joint material are right.

Pennsylvania bluestone brings a regional, quarried character — thermal flag for clean lines or natural cleft for a more textured surface that softens against planting.

Flagstone and fieldstone introduce irregular pattern and hand-set texture that suits established, mature landscapes and front-entry settings.

Segmental wall block and natural boulder each have a role — engineered block for structured grade changes, boulder for a more organic, landscape-led transition.
We are not an authorized dealer or certified installer for any specific manufacturer, and we do not represent brand partnerships. Material choices are made on fit, not markup.
Hardscape & Landscape Planning for Northeastern Pennsylvania
The company is based in Scranton, Pennsylvania, and the work is built for this region. Northeastern Pennsylvania properties deal with real freeze-thaw cycles, spring and storm runoff, mature landscapes on established lots, and grade changes that shape how a yard can be used. Those conditions drive the decisions that matter most — base depth, compaction, drainage paths, and material that can move with the seasons without failing.
We serve residential properties throughout the surrounding service footprint — from the immediate Scranton area out through the Abingtons, the Mid Valley, North Lackawanna, and the Wilkes-Barre area. A full directory of the communities we serve is on the Service Areas hub.
